Information drive begins to stress rate of deaths from heart disease

A new community campaign designed to raise public awareness and decrease the rate of death caused by heart disease kicked off this morning, with ambitious goals.

Titled “The Beat Goes On,” efforts will include a bit of education encased in a truckload of fun including sponsorship of a Music in the Park concert with Hip Pocket and a Run for Heart for elementary youngsters this summer.

“This is really a community-wide campaign,”’ Langlade Hospital Administrator Dave Schneider said, stressing the commitment of schools, businesses and governmental agencies. “We know we can’t change the statistics overnight, but studies have shown that education and prevention efforts over the long term does have an effect.”
