Brutal winter leads top stories of a busy 2014

Langlade County was roiled by Mother Nature in 2014, and that battering—rather than decisions by developers or voters—was the easy selection as the Antigo Daily Journal’s top story of the year.

The story of the year traditionally refers to a human success or failure of the past year, often with ramifications for the future, but this year’s selection is a simple salute to the power of nature.

Problems started early in Antigo, with brutal temperatures sinking the frost deep into the ground and freezing and bursting water mains across the community.
