For a moment, D. Wayne Lukas and jockey Gary Stevens thought they had it won. Entering the stretch of Saturday’s Kentucky Derby, Oxbow, trained by Lukas and piloted by Stevens, was along the rail in second place, poised to make a run at the then-leader leader, Normandy Invasion.
