Jury seated, trial canceled, man takes plea deal

Jury members were seated and then excused as the defendant decided to take a plea deal in the case against him. Jason L. Waggoner, age 35, of Birnamwood, pleaded no contest to a third offense of OWI and a possession of marijuana charge. Two other charges were dismissed, those were driving with a revoked a license and possession of drug paraphernalia. Waggoner's vehicle was found in a ditch on Highway 45, in the Town of Rolling and he was then arrested. He had previous convictions for driving under the influence in La Crosse County and also Marathon County. I hope that the cost of selecting and seating the jury members will fall back on the defendant, since he waited until the very last minute before accepting the plea deal.
