Judge sets bail, accepts pleas in variety of criminal cases

With time winding down to his retirement from the bench later this week, Judge Fred Kawalski set bail and accepted pleas in a number of criminal cases called Monday in Langlade County Circuit Court.

Peter S. Beattie, 56, of Bryant was allowed release on a $300 cash bond after entering a plea of not guilty to a third offense of driving while intoxicated.

The charge dates to Saturday when his vehicle was found in a ditch in the town of Polar. Court records showed at the time of his arrest, he had a breath alcohol reading of .15 percent, nearly twice the prohibited limit.
