Capitol yule tree coming from Pelican Lake

A balsam fir that has graced the front yard of Dennis and Kim Schoeneck’s home northwest of Pelican Lake is bound for Madison, chosen as the Capitol Christmas Tree.

The Schoenecks, assisted by their son, Troy, and Dennis’ brother, Scott, cut down the 40-foot balsam on Wednesday, using a loader to gently move it to the ground and then onto the flatbed to be wrapped for the trip to Madison.

The couple is also sending a number of other trees to decorate the Capitol square and the Executive Residence.
