Volunteer firefighters hone their skills

Local volunteer fire departments gathered in eastern Langlade County for a live fire training exercise, simulating some very possible occurrences.

The event, held at the Wolf River Volunteer Fire Department, drew 30 firefighters from the Langlade, Wolf River, White Lake, Rural Fire Control, Pickerel and Elcho departments.

The scenario, developed with help from the Frontier-Servco FS liquid propane training team, involved problems with small tanks such as those used on gas grills, as well as larger tank and home propane storage units. Crews practiced extinguishing the flames and turning them off in a safe manner.
