Highway 47

Traveling Highway 47 between Antigo and Phlox isn’t without challenges including a stoplight to allow for installation of a culvert, lower photo, and construction of a new bridge over the Red River just east of Phlox, shown in the upper photograph. The culverts may slow motorists down a tad, but it is necessary to make a true detour at the Highway 47 bridge. The state has created an “official” detour traveling many, many extra miles along highways 64 and 52, but Wilhelm Lumber Co. has been advertising a far more simple and short route in the Antigo Daily Journal. That takes motorists north of Phlox Pond along Pond Road off of Highway 47 west of the bridge...
