Wisconsin's inland fishing season begins tomorrow for sport anglers. Sunny and warmer weather is predicted, with highs mostly in the 70's, approaching 80 in some places. D-N-R fisheries' biologist Steven Hogler says pan-fish and walleye will be more active, thanks to a warmer spring and quicker spawning cycles than a year ago. However, he says the water temperatures are still relatively cold -- so anglers must be sure to wear the proper clothing, and use personal flotation devices while on boats. Governor Scott Walker is scheduled to attend the 50th annual Governor's Fishing Opener on the Chippewa Flowage at Hayward -- where he'll also recognize the 100th anniversary of that city's charter. Meanwhile, a catch-and-release policy is in effect in one of the state's more popular fishing spots at the Minocqua and Tomahawk chains-of-lakes. The walleye population has depleted in recent years. Gregg Walker of Walleyes-for-Tomorrow said many lakes no longer have vibrant male walleye populations.
