Bonds lowered in tavern drug sale cases

Two people who were charged on Wednesday with selling marijuana from a tavern in the White Lake area had their bonds reduced in court.

Jeremy Walters, 32, of White Lake and Amanda M. Walrath, 27, of Antigo, had both originally received bond amounts of $20,000 cash. The judge reduced the bonds to $5,000 cash.

Mr. Walters is free from custody.

Ms. Walrath is currently in custody at Langlade County jail.

Walters has been charged with manufacturing or delivering marijuana, possession with intent to deliver marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, maintaining a drug trafficking place and possession of an illegally obtained prescription.

Walrath is charged with manufacturing or delivering marijuana, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of an illegally obtained prescription.

Neither Walrath or Walters has any prior criminal cases listed on the Wisconsin Circuit Court website.

$20,000 seemed excessive for someone who doesn't even have criminal record.
Even $5,000 is a lot in my opinion.

The cops are used to everyone snitching. So when you don't the court tries to intimidate people with high bail. All over a plant that isn't hurting anyone. Cops know it too. But the majority will never admit it because it's job security. Check out L.E.A.P. real cops doing real things : http://www.leap.cc/

It is sad that John Hunter had only a $5,000 bail and he had 50 drug counts including cocaine charges! I guess it does really matter what your last name is in this town..

he had an attorney that made a good case at the hearing, utke wanted 100 grand

Even arresting them seems excessive. According to the ADJ the first sale was traded for a shot at the bar, the second was $5 worth and the third sounds like about the same amount. It sounds more like he was just trying to be nice to the cops bugging him for pot than trying to sell drugs. Maybe they had to make a big deal of it to justify the taxpayer expense of a three month investigation involving two county's sheriff departments yielding $15 of pot.

Go get the bath salters. Granted selling weed is against the law but $20,000 bond that was lowered to $5,000 seems a bit much. Maybe that is why bath salt is such a problem in our community, everybody doing crazy stuff on that gets out of trouble.

There is no place in society for drug dealers, it's been common knowledge what's been going on there for a long time and is about time the authorities caught on.

Seems you are a hypocrite? What is alcohol if not a drug. Your county has more drug dealers (taverns) per capita than most any place I can think of in the states. You just mean there is no place in society for drugs you don't approve of? Or are you one of the last Puritans roaming the earth? Caffeine was at one time illegal and is a drug. Do you consume it? Plenty of dealers slinging that every day. How many places in town sell cigarretes? That's proven to kill people yet you allow it sold. You are a clown and what is wrong with society. those 3 drugs I listed tobacco, alcohol, and caffeine have documented cases of killing people whereas Cannabis has killed nobody. You are promoting your own selfish agenda not based on facts but based on propaganda. Another do as I say not as I do person, shocking...NOT! Colorado, and Washington don't agree with your assesment. Many other states have introduced legislation to remove the penalties as well. Only brain dead folks still drinking the states kool aid believe it harms anyone. Illinois gets it: http://thejointblog.com/illinois-house-committee-unanimously-approves-ca... “The war on drugs has not worked,” says Representative Christian Mitchell, one of the sponsors of House Bill 4299. “Our jails are overcrowded. We need to get smarter on crime, not tougher. Drug addiction is a public health problem, not a public safety problem.”

Taverns are drug dealers? Alcohol is a legal drug you moronic douche. Grass is NOT. Nobody here is being a hypocrite.

Yes taverns are legalized drug dealers. In fact it is a drug that kills thousands of people each year. As for the moronic douche comment. I don't get mad about names because I know if I was standing in your face your balls would pull so far up in your body you wouldn't be able to talk little boy. Not more than once anyhow. But most likely not even the first time. Little man! Haha! But keep convincing yourself you are a tough guy. In Antigo that wouldn't ain't saying much.

You just stated "alcohol is a legal drug" and since they deal it out of bars. Yes they are legalized drug dealers. Or is it not a drug now? Make up your mind there slappy!

A study published in the peer-reviewed Journal of School Health has found that the theory of a “gateway drug” is not associated with marijuana, but rather one of the most damaging and socially accepted drug in the world, alcohol. (1)

The purpose of the study was to investigate and determine which drug (alcohol, tobacco, or marijuana) was the actual “gateway” drug that leads to additional substance abuse, and it used a nationally representative sample of high school seniors.

Again, results indicated that alcohol represented the “gateway” drug, which in turn lead to the use of tobacco, marijuana, and other substances. Furthermore, students who used alcohol “exhibited a significantly greater likelihood of using both licit and illicit drugs.”

The study concluded:

The findings from this investigation support that alcohol should receive primary attention in school-based substance abuse prevention programming, as the use of other substances could be impacted by delaying or preventing alcohol use. Therefore, it seems prudent for school and public health officials to focus prevention efforts, policies, and monies, on addressing adolescent alcohol use.

No kidding 3 months of how many cops salaries to net 15 dollars in weed? Time for people to vote Greening out to pasture so you can reassign his little lapdog Bauknecht to traffic. Every state around us is legalizing it. Illinois just yesterday passed 2 measures to move in that direction and in Wisconsin we're still doing the inquisition. I mean for real the cops approach these people and in 3 entire months can only get them to sell 5 dollars of weed on 3 occasions. Some real kingpins you are throwing down with you cowards.

When you sit in a bar and brag about it then of course it's gonna happen. Don't cry now.

Pot is illegal, prescriptions without your name on it is illegal. Selling either is illegal. Selling either in a place of business is highly illegal. Get it? Got it? GOOD!

Caffeine and cigarettes are not mind altering. alcohol isn't illegal but the second someone who had alcohol gets behind the wheel its illegal. the surrounding states may be legalizing it but i wouldn't want to be on the road if anyone is driving. i wish people in this town were as adamant about fixing our schools as everyone seems to be about making drug use okay.

You obviously have not a clue of what you are talking about. To state that Caffeine and cigarettes are not mind altering makes you a fool or a liar. Which is it? Here are some facts for you: Dr. Oz "Caffeine is considered the most commonly used mind-altering drug in the world. While it can improve concentration and relieves stress, it can have some negative side effects." So is the Dr. lying or is it you talking out your backside? http://www.doctoroz.com/videos/truth-about-caffeine . Regarding your insuation that somehow if Cannabis is legalized you don't want to be on the road if they are driving because you try to tie Cannabis use to being a slobbering drunk who couldn't possibly handle driving. Again the facts of the matter don't support what you feel: "In addition, one study by the U.S. National Highway Transportation Safety Administration shows that drivers with THC in their systems have accident responsibility rates lower than those of drug-free drivers." Not only did Cannabis users have fewer accidents than drunks. The study concluded that they also had fewer accidents than sober drivers so you are talking out your a$$ and just trying to say Cannabis is the same as alcohol. No alcohol can kill you Cannabis cannot. People like you who continue to disregard facts and just parrot the same tired b.s. propaganda that our government has spewed for decades in direct opposition to medical fact is a large part of what is wrong with this supposedly free country. Good God people shut the damn tv off and read a damn book!

I don't have time to read. I have a job. You obviously have nothing better to do than write on this page. YOu can have it. I thought this page might actually have some quality to it. But it just seems to be your personal opinion page. Have fun with that. And I do not care what each and every fact says. Cannabis may not kill but I do know (from personal experience of someone very close to me) that it can be dangerous. Spout all you want. It was and still is illegal in most places for a reason.

Haha! Yeah whose got time for the facts. When you have so much drivel to spread. Cannabis isn't dangerous and for you to insinuate it is. Makes you the fool period. Maybe the person close to you is just an idiot. The Cannabis surely wasn't dangerous to them. It is illegal for a reason. It is illegal because of selfish business interests who couldn't market you their poison and toxic products if it were legal. When ignorant people like you die off the planet will be better for it.

So your assertions were refuted with facts and your only response is " I don't have time to read I have a job" lol really? Not sure what your age but if you haven't read anything since landing your first job it explains why you are so behind the times. Are you sure you aren't a politician? After all they have jobs and rarely read anything they vote for. Probably more likely a parasite cop living off tax dollars.

If the district had done regular maintenance on those buildings they wouldn't be in the state they are today. Plenty of older buildings in better condition are in use all over the country. What you need to cure is the idea of spend, spend, spend, and take care of what you have. I graduated 20 years ago. The high school I attended was built in 1961 and their building and grounds crew have taken great care of it as it is still being used as a high school today. Your problem is this materialistic throw it away society. You clowns don't need a new school you need to take care of what you have and be happy with that. Or you are just another part of the problem. Not to mention your above logic on marijuana is flawed as well. What Antigo needs to do is stop listening to clowns with absolutely NO sense!

The only reason they probably did not sell more is they smoked it all before they got there. Lock their arses up for doing what is plainly illegal. Kudos to the sheriffs dept.

If that was your response. You couldn't have even read the article you moron.

Our tax dollars go for this? Unbelievablely stupid!

Good one billy. I mean fat trucker. I mean STFU clown. Go bust up a road and keep your mouth shut!

If big trucker is bill then that is the biggest hypocrite i've ever met figuratively and quite literally! What a b-tch!

I think the cops deserve bonuses for every pill pushing pot selling scum they bring in. Get them off the streets. As citizens and a taxpayer we deserve it. After all we are the only ones left with a job that is actually paying taxes. Does anyone think taxes were taken out of the narcotics that was sold. Hell no! So just what we need is more non-tax paying people to get our kids f@#%ed up and the cycle continues.

Thank you Nathan w. its nice to know someone else in this town and on this page think that the drugs are the problem. KUDOS!!! The cops should be acknowledged for doing their job. and btw anonymous i did read part of a book this morning. the big black one that is almost 2000 years old. try that book sometime.

I doubt this is Nathan W or did you just refer to your step daughter as scum?

Give the cops bonuses?? Lol how retarded

Yes some tax was paid .As a matter of fact the cop paid sales tax on the shot he traded for the weed and the bar paid for the liquor stamp on the bottle. Must be nice for cops to lounge at a tavern having drinks while you're setting people up. Saves having to go to the bar after work if you can just get drunk at work?

Hats off to the bible, and parents that give a crap.

Nothing wrong with the big black book. Whats wrong is idiots like you who not only post with someone elses name pretending to be them... you misrepresent the book.

Genesis 1:12 King James Version (KJV)
12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was GOOD.

Cannabis: a capitalized : a genus of annual HERBS(family Moraceae) that have leaves with three to seven elongate leaflets and pistillate flowers in spikes along the leafy erect stems and that include the hemp (C. sativa)

So here we have an early biblical verse describing the creation of the Earth and God creating herbaceous plants and calling them all Good. Then we have the dictionary declaring the genus of Cannabis as an herb. Now I know it might be hard for slow people like yourself to wrap your mind around the implications of that.

In conclusion you call bad what God calls good and still have the stupidity to claim you follow the bible! The bible talks about people like you who will put forth dark for light and light for dark.

Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

If you were around 2000 years ago you would have probably help nail him to the cross. Idiot!

Good for you. If i wanted to be an expert on just ONE subject i would choose one that isn't about a plant. i like to know a little something about a lot of things. keeps life better rounded. by the way all the name calling is kind of childish. as for my username i came on here as anonymous because my first post i wanted to say what i needed to say but it regarded a very personal subject that was printed. i was angry but didn't want the attention. what's your excuse? you are "anonymous". why? afraid to say anything to someone's face? it is much easier to sit behind a computer with no face or no name. And thanks for the laughs. Rilying you up so much certainly made for a few laughs

Your mind must not move very fast? Who other than yourself said anything about only being an expert in one subject? Much less being an expert in that one subject? You are inflecting your insecurities through your typing. People with low mental aptitude tend to do those types of things. They cease operating in the realm of what actually happened and start operating outside of fact usually using hyperbole or outright lies. Much like yourself. As for your assertion of being riled. I'm not even riled. I just choose not to sit by and let people swallow a lie when I know for fact you are full of it. If that bothers you and pricks your pride. One would think it would encourage you to actually study what you are being taken to task on and revisit your position to see if indeed you have been mistaken. But no, someone of your moral caliber can never look and review themselves. They would much rather continue putting lies forward. I hope you change one day. Have a good day!

who cares about names, all you would do is fight back and forth and threaten to go pound on them for one reason or another and give the police another reason to dish out charges and fines

No worries the poster above that stated: "why? are you afraid to say something to someones face?" doesn't really want to know my name anyhow. They are just putting on a show when they run out of a valid argument. Besides I live in a mutual combat state so the cops couldn't do anything except help that clown back off the ground! They certainly wouldn't be writing a ticket. Unlike Wisconsin it's legal to throw down where I live and the poster is welcome to come on up. I would welcome it. Although I highly doubt they would drive all this way to get their a$$ handed to them. I would much rather prefer they stayed down in that miserable town and began reading books.

Lock them all up no questions asked.

So sad! Waste of time and taxpayers money for a $5 dollar bud and a shot.. oh and percription pills that are his fathers lol. However if I was a police officer on the case I would try to dig up anything I could so it doesnt look so bad. Do the math 4500.00 dollar wages for the 15 cop raid just for 309 dollars in pot. Seems pretty damn stupid.

Why are cops out at taverns trading shots of booze for weed? I would have to ask why are cops out drinking while also setting up drug buys. I doubt impairment of any kind is allowed in the course of ones duties? So these officers sat out at a bar drinking and then not only set up a drug buy but then themselves drove from the location??? Sounds like another do as I say not as I do!

An old friend of mine recenlty came back to the area on an InterState Compact as a parolee from Montana. His new girlfriend is a suspected drug dealer whom the police department has been watching for quite some time. The local authorities have her in their sights selling drugs in local liquor establishments (HeadQuarters and Smitty's) as well as out of her home. My friend's parole officer discovered that he had been frequenting the bars and drinking, which is a violation of his parole. His parole officer arrested him 10 days ago and still has him detained in Vilas County Jail. The drug dealing girlfriend is still out and about, selling drugs and partying it up.

My friend got screwed because the police are looking at his girlfriend, happened upon his violation and helped build a case against him. The girlfriend is still out there selling drugs and they haven't arrested her yet. How much evidence do they need against her?

Michael Gene Mayville aka: likehell on social internet site Cellufun.Com is an animal and should be treated as such. Any parents whos children attended school with his younger daughter need 2 know he is a registered sex offender and was at the childs school on re
regular basis. Tisk tisk....shame on the school principal who knew this was happening!

Oh the subject of drug dealing, manufacturing and possession: My niece and nephews go to East Elementary and there is a young woman who is selling drugs out of her mother's house only 2 houses (312 7th Ave.)from the school. She has a baby and lives with her mother. The police have been repeatedly notified about this activity, which has occurred in front of the kids as they walk to the Boys and Girls Club, and yet she is still walking around a free person. Does it really take that long to build a case against a person, or are they just dragging their heels? Defend or condemn this household in which she resides, but I want to know why it takes so long for something to be done.

Not to tell anyone what they should or should not believe, however I have seen the benefits of MEDICAL MARIJUANA first hand. When used PROPERLY, marijuana has many benefits, especially for those who suffer from PTSD, the effects of chemotherapy, etc. On a personal level, I think that MEDICAL MARIJUANA should be legalized. The fact that the county wasted so many man hours on $15 worth in street level marijuana is wasteful. If this had been a case where there was $1500 in sales, then the man hours would have been justified, but not $15. Move on to something else worthy of the man hours and expense.

"Although I highly doubt they would drive all this way to get their a$$ handed to them" - spoken like a true Keyboard Rambo.

No keyboard rambo here. Actually a pretty easy going person. However if someone wants to call me out for whatever childish reason they could possibly come up with all I would have to say is come on up. Then you'll find out first hand who is the keyboard "rambo". If you're right you can post it online and be an antigo superhero. If you are mistaken you'll need a good medical plan.

"No keyboard rambo here." <- pounds chest.

"there is a young woman who is selling drugs out of her mother's house only 2 houses (312 7th Ave.)from the school" Does this statement not bother anyone? I have children who go to East Elementary and walk to the Boys & Girls Club after school until I get done with work. They walk right past this house!

Lets talk about a young woman with a baby, living in her mother's home and off of the system, selling drugs and the Antigo Police Department is going to do what about it exactly?

And shes going to sell your elementary school kids drugs?! Unbelievable! Someone make a citizen's arrest. But really, your kids have walked passed houses that sell drugs out of them before. Guaranteed. You live in Antigo. Gtfo if you don't want to deal with it, I did.
